Gaia have just agreed to sponsor us for the 2006 season!

Bristol Plastic Factory (BPF) @ WUCC 2006

Every four years, the World Ultimate Club Championships (‘WUCC’) are held in a different location around the world. BPF was formed to push forward Ultimate in Bristol, to compete at the highest level, both domestically and internationally, and to create a spirited club open to new and experienced members. We are now facing one of our biggest challenges as a Mixed Team having qualified for a place in the WUCC to be held in Perth this November.

We can succeed at the highest level against the top North American and Japanese teams.

Unfortunately as an amateur sport the travel expenses are our greatest challenge.

We are asking you to consider the opportunity to sponsor our team.

We look forward to working with you.

So, what is Ultimate?

"Ultimate is now one of the fastest growing sports in the world." Canadian National Times

What is Ultimate?
  • Ultimate is a fast moving team sport enjoyed by thousands the world over. Comparisons can be made with other team games such as football or rugby, but the truth is it’s unlike any other sport. There are no referees. The rules are simple, but the strategies are complex. And it’s played with a flying disc
  • To compete at the highest level, Ultimate players must possess a degree of speed, stamina and agility that is matched in few other sports. Yet it’s simple for newcomers to pick up, and provision is made for competition at all levels of ability
Spirit of the Game
  • Ultimate is a non contact sport – most contact between players can be deemed a foul. But there are no referees. Players make their own foul calls, and it is the responsibility of all players to settle disputes fairly, according to the guidelines laid down in the rules of Ultimate. This is part of “The Spirit of the Game”, a central philosophy behind Ultimate that largely eliminates the gamesmanship and “off the ball” incidents that can spoil other sports.
  • “Ultimate stresses sportsmanship and fair play. Competitive play is encouraged, but never at the expense of respect between players, adherence to the rules, and the basic joy of play.” (WFDF Rules of Ultimate)
Basic Rules
  • Ultimate is a game for two teams of seven players, played on a pitch of comparable size to a rugby field. The last 18 metres at each end of the pitch are the “endzones”. A goal is scored by passing the disc to a member of your team in the endzone that your team is attacking. Players cannot run with the disc. A team can therefore only move the disc upfield by throwing it from player to player. The defending team takes possession if the disc touches the ground, or if they make an interception by catching the disc or knocking it to the ground in mid-flight.
  • The winner is the first team to score a set number of points
Ultimate in the UK
  • Ultimate Frisbee in the UK has grown remarkably over the last few years – there are now some 250 teams registered with the UK Ultimate Association. In every corner of the country, from Dingwall to Cornwall the numbers of players and clubs is increasing, ever rising numbers of fun loving, athletic people are discovering the lure of the disc. This grassroots growth of our sport is reflected in the continued strength of the top level ultimate played. UK players and teams are consistently amongst the best in Europe and the World
"A tremendous game, well worth watching: fast, continuous, honourable...Ultimate is American football without the violence..." The Times, UK "

Why sponsor BPF?

The Ultimate player typically personifies the attractive young adult demographic. Players typically consist of 18-36 year old men and women, predominantly university students or young professionals. Single, adventurous, educated, with earning power and potential disposable income to match.

We expect that over 2,500 players will attend this event along with 500 volunteers and officials. A tournament website (WUCC2006.org) is being regularly updated keeping players informed of progress in organising the World Championships. The last world Ultimate championships event (Finland 2004) attracted 150,000 hits worldwide during the week of the event, plus many more thousands of hits leading up to the event. The organisers of WUCC2006 expect to attract similar numbers.

You can target this concentrated demographic audience in an exclusive setting. The power of this grassroots approach lies in the fact that Ultimate is yet virtually untapped by corporate marketing. You can improve your brand awareness, showcase your products, offer sales promotions, win new customers, and ultimately, positively impact your bottom line.
